Pianist Irene Bowling, a resident of Kitsap County since 1981, is
well-known to Washington state audiences as concert artist, teacher,
lecturer, and adjudicator. Dr. Bowlings performances have been given in
several cities across the United States, England, Germany, and Mexico.
She has been a concerto soloist with the Bremerton Symphony several
times in the last 24 years and also performed with the Port Townsend and
Bainbridge orchestras. Solo concert appearances have been an annual
event across the state and she has been featured on King FM, the
classical radio station, cable TV, and radio in eastern Washington.
Dr. Bowling received her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance
from Arizona State University, Master of Music from the University of
Maryland and Doctorate from the University of Washington in 1989. Her
teachers include: Eugene Pridonoff, Thomas Schumacher, Santiago
Rodriquez, Neal ODoan, John T. Moore, and most recently, Craig Sheppard.
A recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, she traveled twice on
separate grants to England where she researched British contemporary
piano music, lectured and performed. Dr. Bowling studied theory and
composition under acclaimed British composers Anthony Milner, Jonathan
Harvey, and Michael Finnissy. Additional studies include the University
of the Pacific, Stockton, California; Royal College of Music, London;
and the University of Sussex, Brighton, England.
Dr. Bowling is a nationally certified 24 year member of the Kitsap Music
Teachers Association and founding member of the West Sound Chapter of
the Music Teachers National Association. She has taught piano at the
University of Maryland and Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington.
Bowling Piano Studio students have garnered prestigious awards and
scholarships and have gained admission into Eastman School of Music, San
Francisco Conservatory of Music and major music departments throughout
the country. The Bowling Studio is conveniently located in the middle of
Kitsap County 2 minutes from downtown Silverdale.
Private and group piano lessons are offered to students of any age or
playing ability. Theory, music history, performance classes, and
participation in local and state-wide musical events and competitions
are offered through the studio. Special piano classes are offered for
